Sample Itinerary

Day 1

Your journey through Abruzzo will begin with arrival to either Rome Fiumicino or Abruzzo International Airport. You'll be welcomed by private chauffeur and depart for your four-star boutique hotel located in the ancient center of Sulmona. Embark on a private walking exploration of the city, revered as the birthplace of Ovid and resplendent example of Italian medieval architecture nestled at the foot of the Appenine mountain range. Tour the city’s immaculately preserved neighborhoods, Renaissance churches, and famous medieval gates, including the beautiful Porta Napoli. End your day with a dinner of traditional Abruzzese cuisine.

Day 2

Enjoy an exclusive visit to a local confectioner whose specialty is Sulmona’s signature delicacy known as “confetti”, before being transported by chauffeur to Pacentro for a privately guided tour of its exquisite medieval castle positioned high in the Appenines. Stop for lunch at a rustic agriturismo where you’ll sample the farm’s organically produced products and specialties.

Day 3

Depart Sulmona by chauffeur following check-out, and journey to the mountain village retreat of Pescocostanzo, with its panoramic position within the National Park of Majella. Arrive at your noble palace turned luxury boutique hotel and take some time to relax and enjoy the town's majestic mountain views. Delve into an exclusive wine tasting at a noted cantina within the town’s historic core, before savoring a truly spectacular dinner of traditional Abruzzese dishes at a quaint tavern celebrated for its commitment to local ingredients and flavors.

Day 4

Be greeted by your local expert and depart by chauffeur for the nearby town of Scanno. Set off to discover Scanno's charming town center and artisanal goldsmith workshops, before stopping for a rustic lunch of local specialties. In the afternoon, take in the natural beauty of Lake Scanno, where your local expert will guide you through the many rustic trails that serpentine throughout the neighboring mountainsides.

Day 5

Following breakfast and check-out, travel by chauffeur to the stunning hilltop town of Loreto Aprutino. Arrive for check-in at the city’s famed medieval castle, now a luxury hotel, which dates back to the 9th century. Be enchanted by the town's history and breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside as you meander through its scenic medieval quarter. Stop for lunch at the restaurant of a renowned local chef where spaghetti alla chitarra, arrosticini, and other hearty Abruzzo classics are the delicious focus. In the afternoon be welcomed by your local guide and embark on a scenic ride along the coast, as you visit a series of 12th century abbeys, including San Clemente al Vomano.

Day 6

Be indoctrinated into the rich viticultural and olive oil producing heritage of Loreto Aprutino with a day of wine and olive oil tasting. A renowned member of the fine olive oil producing triad known as “The Golden Triangle”, Loreto Aprutino is revered for producing some of the highest quality olive oils in Italy. With the help of a local expert, learn about the ancient process for producing award winning Abruzzese olive oil, and sample the local liquid gold. Enjoy a hearty lunch where olive oil is the focus as you reflect on all that you’ve learned. From the tree to the vine, you will next visit wineries that proudly produce some of the region’s most noted Cerasuolo, Trebbiano d’Abruzzo and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo vintages. Taste your way through the robust flavors of Abruzzo’s best wines and learn about the evolution of the region’s strong viticultural industry.
