Abadia Retuerta Le Domaine

*****

Where the bountiful vineyards of Ribera del Duero meet the fertile banks of the Duero River, Abadia Retuerta Le Domaine is an oasis of tranquility and taste amidst the dramatic landscapes of Castilla y León’s premiere wine producing appellation. Today a luxurious five-star wine estate, the origins of Le Domaine will be forever intertwined with the historical fabric of the region. Punctuating the mythical landscape, Le Domaine is the soul of the estate and housed within what was the property’s original 12th century abbey, revered for centuries as a Spanish cultural treasure. Ancient and of aristocratic origin, the land on which Le Domaine now stands was previously owned by the Lord of Valladolid. In the year 1145 the lord’s daughter, Doña Mayor, donated the estate and surrounding vineyards to the church, which in turn built the Abbey of Santa Maria de Retuerta.

Today Le Domaine offers 22 guest rooms with sweeping views of the surrounding vineyards and designed to thematically reflect the tranquility of the natural landscapes in the serene and elegantly decorated interiors. Oak floors, stone masonry and bespoke Walnut furniture speak to the origins of the property, while exceptional amenities meet the needs of the contemporary guest, such as large bathrooms featuring custom marble and stonework accented by modern fixtures, adjustable in-room lighting systems, sumptuous linens, state of the art televisions with satellite programming, free wireless internet access, and full butler service.

The estate’s Michelin-starred Refectorio restaurant, housed within the former refectory of the monastery, is a delicious opportunity to sample the essence of Ribera del Duero’s regional flavors as Chef Pablo Montero’s haute cuisine is paired with estate-produced wines, beneath Gothic vaulted ceilings and 17th century frescoes. The La Vinoteca tapas bar is perfect for sampling small, traditional bites and estate wines, while the Cloister Garden restaurant features a menu of Mediterranean dishes to savor.
