Il San Pietro is the dream of Carlo Cinque, called "Carlino" by his friends, who created a jewel of Italian hospitality to express the enthusiasm for his land to travelers, in Positano. Il San Pietro opened to guests on 29th June 1970, on that very promontory Carlo loved so much since he was a child, for the great view over the village and the coast. Carlino would constantly chat to all his guests, putting great care in every detail of his hotel, like the plants and flowers he would let enter the rooms, to merge his eden with the original landscape. The result is a property with 59 distinctive rooms each hewn into the rock and privileged with their own private terrace and stunning views. In 1984, Carlino's nephews Salvatore and Virginia took charge of the hotel management, improving its worldwide visibility, by joining the group of luxury hotels Relais&Chateaux, and its fame, becoming the nest of international stars such as Gregory Peck, the Rockefellers, Peter O'Toole, Tina Turner, Barbra Streisand, François Mitterand, Dustin Hoffman and the King of Jordan. Today Virginia and her sons Carlo and Vito Cinque manage the hotel and continue the hotel's storied tradition in its third generation. In 2002 the hotel's Zass restaurant received a Michelin star and in the same year the hotel's unique Spa opened its doors in a former farming shelter set amidst beautiful olive, lemon and rose trees. In 2008 the new restaurant Carlino was opened, with an al fresco terrace by the sea.
