Sample Itinerary

Day 1

Your gastronomic getaway will begin with arrival to Milan Malpensa Airport, where you will be welcomed by your private chauffeur and transported to your elegant Emilia-Romagna stay, a 14th century country estate. This evening you will toast to the start of your Encounter with a welcome dinner of refined Northern Italian cuisine at your hotel’s acclaimed Michelin-starred restaurant.

Day 2

Today you will uncover the regional recipes that have put Emilia-Romagna on the culinary map. Set off on a private tour of the estate’s prized medieval cellars, where their world class Culatello di Zibello is cured, before rolling up your sleeves for an exclusive, chef-led cooking class to learn the art of Emilian cuisine. Using fresh, seasonal ingredients from the estate’s organic farm and cellars, your cooking lesson will culminate with a delicious lunch of your creations. In the afternoon your local expert will help you explore a historic castle with an intriguing past, before guiding you through the elegant city of Parma. Day 3

From your refined countryside retreat you will depart for the farm of an artisan Parmigiano Reggiano producer, to experience the art of cheesemaking firsthand. Witness the “birth” of their handcrafted Parmigiano before indulging in a tasting of the farm’s delectable aged creations. Your chauffeur will next transport you to the historic barrels of an esteemed balsamic vinegar producer where you’ll learn how this gourmet treasure is produced followed by an exclusive tasting. Travel to the heart of Modena for a guided visit of the city's historic core, including the exquisite Piazza Grande and UNESCO designated Cathedral. Savor lunch at an antique osteria before setting off for a private afternoon tasting of fine Lambrusco vintages at a small batch producer nestled in the vineyards of Sorbara. Day 4

This morning you’ll embark on a privately guided exploration of Bologna’s antique center. Along the way, discover the city’s network of covered porticos and famous landmark the Two Towers, before visiting Europe’s oldest university, the Universita? di Bologna, with its illustrious 17th century Anatomical Theatre of the Archiginnasio. From the historical riches of the city, you will next enjoy a gastronomic glimpse into the local food culture. Savor salami and mortadella at a historic purveyor of gourmet foods, then delight in a lunch of handmade pastas at a quaint osteria. From the city center, set off for the surrounding countryside where you’ll visit an organic farm known for their prized olive groves and boutique production. Enjoy an expert-led tasting of estate produced Extra Virgin olive oils before returning to Bologna.

Day 5

Further delve into Bologna's vibrant food traditions with the expert help of a renowned local chef. Begin with a visit to the city's fabled Quadrilatero market where you’ll shop for some of Bologna's signature cured meats at an acclaimed salumeria, before visiting a local cheese monger. When your shopping is complete you’ll arrive at the restaurant of your expert chef for a private cooking class of Emilia-Romagna cuisine, culminating with a lunch of your handmade dishes. Enjoy free time in the afternoon to discover the city at your leisure, then in the evening you’ll return to the kitchen for a special chef's tasting dinner.

Day 6

Experience the art of crafting the perfect Prosciutto di Parma with a special visit to a premiere producer. During your visit you’ll learn about the producer’s meticulous meat curing process and dedication to quality, before tasting their finest hams. Next, travel to the sophisticated city of Ferrara, where your local expert, a resident art historian, will guide you on a private bike ride along the city’s medieval walls and through its most atmospheric neighborhoods and exquisite piazze. Savor a lunch of handmade cappellacci stuffed with pumpkin at an antique taverna before sampling local pastries at a historic pasticceria. Your afternoon will be spent learning about the infamous history of Lucrezia Borgia, the Duchess of Ferrara, while visiting the medieval Este Castle.

Day 7

Set off to discover Bologna’s boutique winemaking zone, the Colli Bolognesi appellation, nestled in the surrounding countryside. Delight in an exclusive private winery visit at a small batch producer, before sampling their superior Colli Bolonesi DOCG wines. For lunch you will travel by chauffeur to an acclaimed Michelin-starred eatery for a very special meal of regional flavors reinterpreted with a contemporary twist in the heart of wine country. You’ll return to Bologna for a free evening to continue exploring the city at your own pace.

Day 8

Today you will depart the city for a look at the some of the region’s most intriguing cultural treasures. Arrive in the town of Comacchio, known as Emilia-Romagna’s “Little Venice”, for a guided visit of its scenic canals and colorful houses, before traveling to a typical fishing hut to delight in a lunch celebrating the morning’s fresh catch. Following lunch, your chauffeur will transport you to the ancient city of Ravenna where your expert art guide will reveal the Byzantine splendors of its UNESCO designated sites, such as the Church of San Vitale and the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo. After returning to Bologna by chauffeur, you’ll have this evening free to soak in Bologna’s sights and sounds, and prepare for tomorrow’s departure.

Day 9

Bid Bologna farewell and following check-out, you’ll depart by chauffeur for Milano Malpensa Airport, in preparation for your return flight or the next leg of your adventure.
