Palazzo Gattini

The former residence of Matera’s oldest noble family, Palazzo Gattini is a historic 18th century palace turned five-star luxury hotel, superbly located in the center of the ancient city of Matera. With a profound respect for the integrity of the original structure, the palazzo has been masterfully restored to highlight its unique architectural details and façade, while bringing the grand building into the modern era with a chic and sophisticated interior design. With a total of only 20 luxury rooms, 3 junior suites, 5 suites and 12 deluxe suites, a careful attention to detail can be seen throughout the hotel, from the property’s predominate use of locally quarried stone echoing the antique edifices of the city itself and its use of locally sourced furnishings, to its familiar palette of creams and whites that call to mind the very colors of Matera. Original frescoes and many of the palazzo’s antique furnishings have been meticulously restored, offering a beautiful contrast to the property’s contemporary décor. Each guest rooms is unique, offering a blend of history and modernity along with well appointed amenities, including internet connectivity, a flat screen TV with satellite programming, a mini-bar, air conditioning, an electronic safe, and spacious bathrooms with shower and bath.

The property’s elegant “Don Matteo” restaurant is a culinary delight not to be missed, where contemporary Italian cuisine is served within a unique dining space that combines modern touches with antique details. The hotel’s additional deluxe amenities include an underground Spa, excavated from ancient calcareous stone caves, and offers distinct spaces from which to enjoy its many treatments. The Spa’s highlights include treatment rooms where guests can relax with an assortment of beauty and massage treatments, a relaxation lounge, an antique cistern offering a hot, saline water bath, a large cistern with a whirpool bath and two jazuzzi beds, as well as a hamman and chromotherapy and aromatherapy showers.
